Jianxin Ma

Jianxin Ma is a Professor in the Department of Agronomy and the Center for Plant Biology at Purdue University. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant Genetics and Breeding from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1999 and was trained in Plant Comparative and Evolutionary Genomics as a postdoctoral associate at Purdue University (2000-2013) and the University of Georgia (2003-2005). He returned Purdue as a Research Geneticist in 2005 and promoted to Research Assistant Professor in 2006. He became an Assistant Professor in 2007 and promoted to full Professor in 2015. He was a recipient of Purdue University Faculty Scholar (2012-2017) and Purdue Agricultural Research Award (2016). He was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2018 and the Crop Science Society of America in 2021, and a recipent of the Mid-Career Achievement Award in Soybean Genetics and Genomics in Soy2022. He was appointed as Dean’s Chair in Soybean Genomics in 2022 and Indiana Soybean Alliance Endowed Chair in Soybean Improvement in 2023. His research is focused on soybean genetics and genomics with an emphasis on  translating basic findings into soybean improvement.
